Want To Get Rid of Your Oily Skin? Here’s How!

The question I get asked on a regular basis is :

“Shanti, How do I get rid of my oily skin?”

Well, my lovelies….you can’t. Yes I know, womp womp on everyone that deals with oily skin on a daily basis. But you can help alleviate the issue. How? WATER! Nooooo? Yes. Good ol’ H20. Let me break down skin for you without using difficult Esthetician terms that boggle even my mind sometimes.

Oily skin can occur due to a variety of factors. Examples are : hormonal in-balance,hereditary,your diet(yes put down the sugary soda), caffeine consumption, alcohol, and/or improper skin-care regimes or none at all.

First off treat your oily skin right. This means from the inside out. Drinking a glass of room temp, lemon water in the morning helps balance your ph levels to get your day started right and help your skin balance itself out along with your kidneys, liver, and other internal organs that filter out all the things that cause oily skin.

Get your skin fit with a good skin care routine and stick to it! Use a good gel cleanser (Avalon Organics Vitamin C Gel Cleanser is a good one). Don’t forget to TONE!! I can’t stress that enough.A mild toner with no alcohol or harsh chemicals that will strip your skin’s natural acid mantle,which causes even more oily skin. Use a good moisturizer with an SPF during the day and an AHA(alpha hydroxy acid) moisturizer at night. During the week treat your skin to a mask with AHA or natural fruit enzymes.If your allergic to fruit acids try a simple clay mask instead.

Why all the fruit enzyme AHA talk? These wonderful natural acids help balance out and exfoliate oily skin without aggravating it. The more you aggravate oily skin the more oil it produces. So all that excessive scrubbing you’ve been doing is actually not helping get rid of your greasies.

Next, put down that coffee, soda,and other sugary and caffeine laden drinks. These drinks dehydrate your skin and cause…you guessed it, more oil! Plus your body will thank you in the long run.

Being healthy inside and out benefits your entire body. Lifestyle changes aren’t easy but they are manageable and your body and skin will reap the benefits of you taking the initiative to take care of it.
