You finally decide to begin your health journey but find yourself confused on what condiments can you? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I’ve been there many times and still find myself learning new healthier choices everyday. Having a salad for lunch, but figuring out what dressings to use can leave you confused and dumfounded! So what do you do?
There’s nothing worse than to have a healthy salad and not know what the hell to use as your dressing. It’s not as hard or complicated as it seems. There’s a couple of things you need to keep in mind every time to reach to buy dressing. For one, you want to stick to dressing brands that have “no added preservatives.” You don’t want any extra junk and chemicals in your dressing. There are some brands that have “organic” or “natural” ingredients, those are fine to use too. For two, you want to stick to dressings with a balsamic, lemon or vinaigrette base. You can also whip up your own dressing (like I do) i’ll explain that later. As a general “clean eating” rule, all things heavy in creams, thick and rich marinades are not good for you. They taste great but are generally loaded in bad for you calories, label fats, hidden fats, preservatives, high in sodium, and everything else that is not good for your overall health. Vinaigrette based dressings are lighter and healthier choices. Still confused? Let me give you a small list to help you with ideas.

QUICK TIP: Remember to watch your sodium when buying any dressing. Read the labels. Just coz it says “light” doesn’t mean it isn’t skyrocketing in salt AKA sodium.
- Light Italian
- Balsamic vinaigrette
- Sesame ginger vinaigrette
- Make your own – 1 tablespoon of olive oil, Mrs Dash seasoning, a pinch of sea salt, ground pepper, twist lemon over it
- Light vinaigrette Caesar
- Garlic & oil vinegar dressing
- Lemon balsamic
- Light raspberry vinaigrette
- Raspberry balsamic
- Light lemon sesame
You should get the picture by now. Notice they’re all light, vinaigrette or balsamic based dressings? It’s very simple. No need to complicate things when choosing a healthy dressing choice. You can also make a homemade dressing. I usually use number 1 & 4 when having my salads.
You don’t have to sacrifice “taste” when eating clean. You just need to make better choices.
