Most of us have the joy of living with those wonderful dimples or as they’re affectionately known, cottage cheese, on the lower half of our body. “Joy” may not be exactly the word we use when referring to cellulite, but you know what I mean. So, how can we get rid of or at least reduce this evil from our butt and thighs?
First, what is cellulite? Cellulite is made up of strands of connective tissue that separate fat cells into small compartments and connect fat to skin. For women, those fibers form a honeycomb-shaped pattern, so any increase of body fat bulges out through the honeycomb openings to form the dimpling we see in the backs of our thighs. So, here are five ways to get smoother, more beautiful legs.
1. Work Out
Well, more specifically, work out the lower body at various angles. Exercises like side lunges, donkey kicks, lying inner leg lifts, squats, one-legged lunges are just a few to help you reduce the fat in your lower body replacing it with smooth muscle. Doing exercises like these on a consistent basis will smooth out those annoying ripples.
2. Drink Water
Consuming water helps to keep your body, muscles, tissues, etc. hydrated and “full.” When your body is hydrated, the smaller the “honeycombs” are and the harder it is for the excess fat to push through. When the body is dehydrated, things tend to shrivel up and cause the dimples we see in our legs.
3. Reduce Your Salt Intake
This works hand in hand with drinking water. Salt is naturally dehydrating, so reducing the amount of salt you consume or substituting regular table salt with Himalayan crystal salt will greatly reduce the appearance of cellulite. Regular table salt is not only dehydrating, but also acidic and contributes to unnecessary toxicity. Crystal salts are alkaline (non acidic) and actually positively benefits the body.
4. Get a Massage
Massage, whether received from a spa, with a foam roller, or brush, helps break down the fat cell deposits to decrease the appearance of dimples. Breaking down those cells helps get the toxins circulating and then released through the lymphatic system.
5. Use Natural Oils
Massage and moisturize your skin daily with coconut oil. Using coconut oil exfoliates the skin, stimulates blood flow and lymph circulation, and encourages the growth of new, healthy skin. The benefits contribute to reducing the appearance of cellulite.
