It’s summertime, the perfect time to get the kids out of the house, off of those electronics, and into the fresh air. They may make it difficult at first, since being outside for kids these days is such a foreign idea, but you can do it. Once they start having fun, they will forget all about their smart phones, video games, and tablets.
Go fly a kite!
When was the last time you actually saw kids or anyone flying a kite? I can’t even remember. Wait for a windy day, go get the biggest kite you can find (the dollar store has a great selection), and find a park or open field. You and the kids will love guiding your kites across the sky and running through the grass to see how fast it will go. Fun cardio!
Go for a swim
Swimming is a great low impact activity to do with the kids. Treading water, running, splashing, and of course swimming will burn calories without you even realizing it. If you don’t have access to a pool, your local community center may have one and it will only cost a couple of dollars.
Get out the bikes
Find a nearby bike trail or park and start peddling your way to great health. You and the kids will love the time spent in nature scoping out different birds, flowers, trees, and squirrels. End your ride with a picnic with healthy foods and snacks to help refuel.
Hit the mall
Shopping, or at least window shopping at a large mall is a great way to get some walking in. Walking the entire mall while stopping in your and the kids’ favorite stores is great cardio. Be sure to wear gym shoes or walking shoes, so you don’t develop knee or lower back pain (most mall floors are concrete). Who knows, you all may even score a few great deals along the way!
There are so many ways to have have fun and get fit. What are some ways you and your kids will get fit this summer?
